Who is your favorite mangaka?
What kind of manga that inspiring your drawing style?
If both of those question is asked for newbie mangaka like me (or you), maybe you will mention it more than one Manga Artists’ names. Taking example, if me even also have to reply that question, I will mention one by one the name of mangaka’s from first I know about hard streak drawing, till later I continue to acquaintance of manga itself.
Actually at the beginning, I have become like to drawing because in my childhood I was saw many of anime, sentai and kamen rider at local station TV’s. Inspiring by famous masterpiece manga of Masami Kurumada, Saint Seiya, who bring me into acrossing career become true mangaka (I know that now I am still an imitation mangaka after all).
Masami’s Manga style is most amazing than other in that time. Even at my childhood, many of children as old as me inspired by and race to become a fake version of Masami Kurumada.
Till this time also, I still loyal to make Senpai-Masami’s drawing style in my every single drawing, although it must combined or influenced by different style for every each years, or every I saw another manga or anime that I felt suited for becoming my temporary drawing style. At the same time, trying to find my most consistence drawing style and never to fluctuate again later (however, professionals mangaka just like Japan and other, can even experience many of evolutions drawing style, more amount than us which still newbie and inexperienced).
Next years, as long as my progressively adultness, it also more and more manga that influenced me after all, as like as usually, I just can become a fake of manga’s artist which trends at that moment. And that time, there was manga/anime which enough nicely for me, it is Flame of Recca (I do not know about author of it?), that change my drawing style become more like Recca, Fukko, Koganae, Domon, etc. Although, remain in fantasy and more little serious story.
Continue to next years after, again I inspired by one of the most popular masterpiece manga of Rumiko Takahashi, Inuyasha. In this manga/anime, I was inspired by one of the semi-antagonist character, that’s Sesshomaru, Inuyasha’s old brother. In the comics, representation of Sesshomaru-sama (sama = respect exspression) not too seen conspicuous buttonhole, however after became raised to anime, buttonhole of this invisible human being seen so elegant and flamboyant, this condition attended my drawing instinct to create a character with similar characteristics like him.
Next manga after the two above has been become momentary berth of my hand streak, following like : Slamdunk (artist/mangaka : Takehiko Inoue); Hunter X Hunter (mangaka : Yoshihiro Togashi); Detective Conan (Aoyama Gosho); Bleach (Tite Kubo); Death Note (Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata), till later the most intensively and splashy, and also turned around to compete in some our station TV, Naruto (Masashi Kishimoto’s masterpiece), with drawing style typically character, full perspective angle view and high level detail picture, making people (especially the children) make a fresh start to follow to their respective and desired characters (like as Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara, etc.), or indirectly in fact they are trying to look liked themselves with their respective mangaka.
Later, again I find a style that spend a lot of my time enough to learn for, that is Eyeshield 21 drawing style (original story idea: Richiro Inagaki; art/mangaka: Yuusuke Murata). I very like to see personality and expressions for each characters presented by this manga. There is no many detail which ‘Whew!’, but on the contrary this manga is uppermost oppositely. Selling point of this manga is because that moderation and also the rich of character properties, which invite a big laugh for me (actually maybe for you). Just Conceiving, one of his character, Komusubi Daikichi, his face simply can be made only with a few basic shapes. Just draw an circular hatched nose, eyes only a dots, and the eyebrows is just like ‘W’ letter or spiral made. So simple, but it’s Amazing!
Scott McCloud, one of American Comics artist, in his book Making Comics says that good comic is when the character that in the making are wide and rich. It meaning not to same precisely on every each different character faces. So that if is only change the hair, can make other character because the same form faces by one and other. From here too, I also get a precise Whack at my face! (this is abundant), because just prior I read the McCloud composition book and also Eyeshield 21 manga, characters which I make is all look like same one and other! Differentiating only with their hairs, eyeballs detail and eyeballs colors.

This is only a beginning, till this time too I have never publishing one of comic/novel comic/web comic which can be read by public. Participate in Manga Communities (like Indomanga and K-Magnity) even also only limited to becoming passive member. Not to Intensively release my creation. But finally, there to fore arrive, until I have be able to prepare a concept of story and good image proportion, at the same time I hope in a moment find my consist manga drawing style, I would never stop to DRAW! Minimize later the people remain to remember and assess style of our drawing, let people know masterpiece ‘that’ or masterpiece ‘this’ is our masterpiece.
(although the assessor nothing other than only closes friends or the member of forum that I’ve been joined, because just them who will read my own bizarre masterpiece, huhu..hiks)
